FAQs

FIRST TIME LICENSING A BEAT? HAVE A FEW UNANSWERED QUESTIONS?  Check The FAQs Below

WHAT IS A BEAT LICENSE

Great question. Essentially every time a beat is purchased you are purchasing a “license”. This license is what gives you the legal rights to use a beat within the agreement of that license.

There are generally two types of licenses available. Exclusive and non-exclusive.

Exclusive: After you purchase an exclusive license no other licenses to that specific beat will be sold.

Non-Exclusive: Licenses of this beat will remain available for purchase for other artists

Why Would I want To License A Beat?

Excellent question. In reality every time you purchase a beat, you are in fact purchasing a license to retain the rights to use that beat. The two major differences are exclusive and non-exclusive.

So why purchase a non-exclusive license?

Pricing. By purchasing a non-exclusive license you save on the out-of-pocket cost of the beat. You can then use those savings towards other costs such as recording/engineering, distribution and marketing. These are equally as important for your song’s success!

Non exclusive licenses are especially beneficial for independent artists. Whether you’re releasing music one single at a time or dropping an entire project. Why spends $1000’s on beats for exclusive licenses only to have that eat up most of your marketing budget?  Choose a non exclusive license that suits you best and free up some cash to be used in other important areas

What Happens if I buy a non exclusive license and my song blows up?

So you purchase a non-exclusive license and save yourself some up front money. As a result you then use those savings to release your song with a excellent marketing budget and it starts to blow up! At this point its probably best to negotiate an exclusive license deal with the producer. Whats great about this is you let the money work for it self!

Furthermore, if it’s to the point were it is worth it for you to buy an exclusive license its probably because you’re making enough money from the success of that song to do so. So do it!

Why Are There Different Prices For Non Exclusive Licenses?

Here on KayPlaya Music, you will notice that you have four different non exclusive license options to choose from. This is to ensure you have the ability to select a license that best benefits both your financial situation and brand.

Not every artist is at the same point in their career so taking a one size fits all approach simply wouldn’t work for your benefit. Because of that each of the license options come with unique built-in rights.

Are you just starting out and want to cut a demo but need legal rights to use a beat? The basic lease may be for you. Are you more of an established artist that books shows and would like to sell and perform your music without any restrictions? Then the unlimited lease may be the perfect license for you. Wherever you are in your career there is an opportunity to take advantage of a license.

If The Beat I Purchase Contains a Sample, Do I Need To Clear It Before Release?

In most instances, my production is sample free. However, if beat you select does contains a sample, you are expected to clear the sample prior to your project’s release. Need more info on this? Use the contact form to hit me up directly

When I Lease A Beat What Files Should I Expect To Receive?
  • Every license comes with a high quality, 320 kbps MP3.
  • Premium Lease includes both MP3 + Wav File
  • Unlimited Lease includes MP3, WAV + Track Outs
When I Play The Beats On Your Site I Hear Your Tags. Are Those Included In The Beats I Purchase?

My beats contain two different tags. The first, “KayPlaya Got The Juice Boy!” only appears at the beginning of the track and is included on all beats

The second tag, “KayPlaya” that plays throughout the length of the beat is not included in the beats you purchase. That tag is simply there to prevent theft of the composition.  This tag however is included on the “free” beat licenses that are available on some beats

Do You Receive Any Back End, Royalty or Publishing From The Song I Create With Your Beat

Yes. As the beat creator, I maintain full ownership of the beat itself, and 50% of the finished song. You as the writer maintain the other 50% ownership of the completed composition.

Upon releasing your song I must be officially credited, “Produced By KayPlaya”. This allows 50% of royalties and publishing to be paid to the producer.

What Happens After I Purchase A Beat?

Immediately after purchasing your beat, you will receive an email with a download link for all of the files included with your license.
